Enjoy Being Single While Preparing for Love

In the pursuit for love you must first tap into the source of it and rather than looking outside of yourself wishing and hoping for others to love you, look inside and find where it has resided all along.

Here’s the thing, when you so badly want to be loved and yet you are not yet being love yourself, it its nearly impossible to find it. When you are single you have an opportunity to create your life - to practice embracing the present moment and live life fully and by your terms. This is such a great time for you to take the time to really know yourself deeply and intimately, accept you fully - all of you, improve the relationships that exist and create a loving and supportive network.

This is the time to create your life’s vision, discover your passions and start living them, understand your purpose and what makes you tick. This is the time to begin to strategically create and attract the life and love that you desire.

This is the time to define your requirements for a partner. You decide with conscious clarity how you want to relate and be treated in a relationship. You decide what values are the most important to you and what features are non-negotiable in order for you to know that a person is the right one for you in a relationship. You create the environment in which you know you will thrive and can enjoy life long sustaining love.

Enjoy the relationships that exist now, dwell in the possibilities, revel in the time alone and create some time that you are willing to share with the right partner for you.

Reflect on Sadness

Today I am reflective. I want to make sense of my sadness when by all accounts, I should be happy. I am living in a great community, meeting new people. I live in a spacious condo on the water, decorated with my new sense of experimental style. I have an opportunity to decide what I would like to do for a career, yet there is no hurry. I can enjoy this time of space and suspension. Yet, I don’t. I miss the people who should be filling up the space here with me. I do not know how to make the ache go away.

Suddenly, it hit me. I don’t think that I ever really believed that a man would love me completely. So if I have this deep mistrust of being loved, it is no wonder that all my relationships end the same way - over. I think I have always worried that once someone really gets to know me, they will not like me, and guess what, that has been so true. In both of my marriages, and in my last great fling, again, it was true.

I am not sure that I even want to spend the time of seeing where this might be true in my first marriage. It was so long ago, and I don’t feel any pain there. I was so young, the circumstances so very typical for being that young and for my time. I thought I was marrying someone different from what I knew. He was not. His family was what I thought I wanted, and I naively believed that he was like his family and my life would be like that. Of course, I did have his family, I just did not have him. I also have the gift of the child we created.

My second marriage, I got a little smarter in knowing what I wanted in a man. I got what I wanted to the extent I knew what that was. I also did not heed the warning signs. I was so grateful to be with someone who I ordained to be a god next to me, that I lost sight of me completely, for a while, anyway. I always thought he was better than me, and by the time I realized that neither of us was better, we were both different, I also tired of the constant struggle of power. Although I lost sight of myself several times in that marriage, I also found myself, too. Of course, there was so much good, too. I prefer to remember why I loved him, why I stayed so long. But then, I have to remind myself there was a reason it ended. So, I look at it only to raise myself from self-doubt, blame and guilt.

I also want to make sense so I can do it right finally. I wonder if that is even possible. LIndy tells me it is. I want to believe her. Yet, based on the men I have been meeting lately, I can’t help but wonder how. The way I have been acting lately, I am sure it is not. I need to gather my courage and strength and learn how to enjoy being alone. I used to think I was special and had so much to offer, and lately I cannot help wondering if this is still true.

I am terrified of making another mistake with a man. I certainly know what I do not want in a relationship. I have lots of practice there. In the last year, I have had even more exposure to what I do not even want in a dating relationship, never mind a permanent one. Maybe it is time, to look at things differently. After all, one can always hope.

Laughter - One of the Best Stress Reducers

I don’t usually share funny stories here but I think this one is worth sharing and it’s too long to write in Facebook. So we start from the premise that laughter is one of the best stress reducers ever. And, another thing that I have learned is that we need to give our inner child the rein occasionally because if we don’t she or he will break free when you least expect it and cause utter havoc. You can’t just put him or her in a closet and expect to never hear from them again. Children don’t have eternal patience and neither do your inner children.

So having learned from my father and grandfather how to safely let my inner child go free and that stress is a great way to keep things mellow I occasionally create funny situations in my home. My husband thank goodness shares my humor.

So for the funny story. My husband was getting ready to go out, putting on his sneakers, in fact. There was a pile of change on the dining room table and when he wasn’t looking I put it in his sneaker. Now normally this would be pretty funny when he put his foot in the sneaker but nothing happened. He laced up and stood to leave. Meanwhile I am on the deck viewing this and beginning to burst with laughter. Having known me for years he understand the signs and knows I did something.
He finally realizes that his foot doesn’t fit quite right and knows what I have done. We are now hysterically laughing. This little trick provided more laughter then I had anticipated.

So you say, I’m not laughing here. Guess this must be one of those locations jokes. If you don’t walk away laughing I hope this will serve to give you permission to bring a little silliness and laughter into your home during a time when many of us need it.

Finding Something Positive on a Gloomy Day

I’ve been really trying to figure out how to keep my spirits up with all this gloomy weather. It’s bad enough for normal people but I’m one of the Seasonal Affective Disorder people. So when the sun isn’t out my energy and mood are pretty low. Yesterday was a serious chocolate crisis day. When I got up this morning to another rainy day I decided that I needed to try something else before I blow up into a balloon and float away (Wait a minute maybe I could float above the clouds).

I decided this morning that I needed to start focusing on the little things that brought a smile or laugh. For instance - My miniature dachshund eats to quickly. We mentioned this to our vet who advised us to buy this plastic dispenser that forces him to take more time to eat. So this morning I decided to try him at it. It’s a giant (almost half his size) purple plastic egg that screws together with the food in the middle and two holes on either side. It was so funny to watch him batty it around. At one point he managed to pick it up in his teeth by the lip of one side and throw it. Definitely took longer for him to get his food down and was a hoot to watch.

So I guess this bad weather has made it possible for me to enjoy the little things in life that I would have rushed through. Not too shabby.

I recently read a blog with advice on planning your summer vacation. According to the blogger rather then choosing a place to travel to and then planning what to do, you should first decide what you want to do and then plan where to go. Here is what he has to say:

Has your family decided where they want to go on your summer vacation? You are not alone, most families have not yet decided where they want to go. It can be a very time consuming activity to discover that ideal vacation escape, so check out the options for your New Hampshire tourism. NH State Liquor Commission Announces Modernization Changes

Highlights of Modernization Act Provisions:

MANAGEMENT REORGANIZATION – New laws reorganize the management structure of the Commission to create three more accountable senior management areas: a division of marketing, merchandising, and warehousing; division of administration; and a division of enforcement and licensing.

CREATES AN ENTERPRISE FUND – New laws permit the Commission to operate more like a business by establishing it as an Enterprise Fund.

REDUCE LICENSING “RED TAPE” – Provision of new laws will allow the commission to simplify and streamline the existing process to obtain most licenses and will begin the process of consolidating the more than 50 license types.

AGENCY STORES EXPANSION – Permits the Commission to permit the sale of spirits in up to eight new grocery or convenience stores. It is the Commission’s intent to begin a limited pilot program of distribution expansion to access its effectiveness and to allow for community input.

NEW PRODUCTS – Permits the Commission to more readily purchase, and offer for sale, products related to wine and spirits such as gift baskets, cork screws, recycling bags, glasses, etc.

EASE RESTRICTIONS ON CHARITY/NON-PROFIT WINE TASTING EVENTS – A new license category can be used to ease the regulatory process of conducting charity wine tastings.

About the NH Liquor Commission
Founded in 1934, the NH Liquor Commission is celebrating its 75th Anniversary. New Hampshire is one of 18 Control States in the nation, where the government controls the distribution of alcoholic beverages as well as being responsible for the regulation of alcoholic beverages. The Liquor Commission operates 77 retail locations. Total sales for FY 2009 are expected to exceed $500 million – up 6% over the previous year. Total profits for the year are up 10%.

Fun News From Hollywood Today

I was really pleased to hear that one of my favorite Dancing With The Stars, stars, Melissa Rycroft has joined ABC News. According to ABC, Former Bachelor; and Dancing with the Stars; Contestant, Melissa Rycroft, Joined ABC’s; Good Morning America; As Special Contributor this morning. She certainly has bounced back after taking the boot from the Bachelor. You know what they say, when one door shuts, another opens - and another - and another. We applaud you Melissa.

Other great news, which actually came as a surprise to me, probably since there were no pregnancy sightings due to the twins coming by surrogate - is the birth of Sarah Jessica and Mathew Broderick’s new babies. I’m really curious about why they choose that route but you know, it really isn’t any of my business.

And, finally a real shocker - Mathew McConaughey will be a dad again and apparently he’s loving it. His son Levi is just 11 months old and partner Brazilian model Camila Alves is pregnant again.

I was reading through my Google Alerts today and found this wonderful story on another blog. To give credit is was on Crista’s blog, location Utopia. And here is the story.

I like that story about the fellow who went to the pet store in search of a singing parakeet. Seems he was a bachelor and his house was too quiet. The store owner had just the bird for him, so the man bought it. The next day the bachelor came home from work to a house full of music. He went to the cage to feed the bird and noticed for the first time that the parakeet had only one leg.

He felt cheated that he’d been sold a one-legged bird, so he called and complained.

“What do you want,” the store owner responded, “a bird who can sing or a bird who can dance?”
Good question for times of disappointment.

Two Sides of Being Alone

These past weeks have been such a struggle between loneliness and wanting to be alone. How does that make sense? One moment I am enjoying my freedom, the space to be just me. I turn up the music very loudly and dance around the room as if no one is watching me. Then it occurs to me that no one is watching me since I am all alone. Oh the sadness of it all!

Another day, I revel in how much I am enjoying plastering posters on all the walls as I sketch out new designs for my dream house, adding details as inspiration strikes me. Then sadness once again seeps in as I wonder if I will live in it by myself. Then I perk up as I affirm how joyful it is that I could build a home totally to my own specifications without having to consider another’s opinion. In another moment, I want someone else’s ideas to flow with mine.

Oh the bother of it all! Why can’t I just enjoy being alone? I am told this is a wonderful time for me to really enjoy my life. I can spend time with friends, do whatever I want, and discover my true essence. Although, I am not sure I really want to know what that is. I am afraid I may like that Sadie even less than I am liking this one.

Of course, Lindy tells me that I may like that Sadie even more, and that I am terrified of that possibility. I laugh at the absurdity of that. Yet, when I am in the throes of despair, as I often seem to be, I wonder, could she be right?

Sadie Jackson, a fictional heroine, is back on the dating scene for the third time. Making Faces making faces for you
Firm now offers home parties

PORTSMOUTH, NH — Making Faces is now making faces in your own living room.
Seven years old this year and incredibly successful, Making Faces is offering a new and fun service to its patrons.

“We have just begun launching home parties,” said Annie Loomis, owner of the two Making Faces stores. “We started a few weeks ago to a small group to see if they liked the concept. They did and it’s full speed ahead.”

The concept is not a new one, but a new one for Making Faces. The hostess of the party lets the Making Faces teams into her home and invites some friends. They do this at-home party only on Thursdays or by special arrangement.

“It’s a different sort of delivery,” said Loomis. “The party is from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. and we practically bring the whole store to the home.”

The at-home parties offer a skin clinic for education and the 10 commandments of skin care is explained in detail. Two of the Making Faces staff give each attendee a five-minute one-on-one for makeup. It runs the gamut from skin bronzers to makeup and more. Lots more.

“There is no charge,” said Loomis. “Anyone interested should call the store for more information.”

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt may or may not be breaking up depending on which tabloid you read. It's been my experience that when rumors start surfacing there is trouble brewing. I"m a Jennifer Aniston fan myself so I'd be happy to see the home wrecker ditched. I did hear that it was the other way around though.

Did a glitch or scam on UTube cause Susan Boyle to come in second in Britain's Got Talent when she really should have won? Noone will except responsibility for it but her supporters do report that they tried to get through on phone lines and couldn't. And, apparently the dance group won with less then a 5% difference in scores.

Susan Boyle is resting and being visited by her cat. Simon Cowell is adamant that Susan Boyle will be on tour if and when she is feeling up to it.Amanda Holden, another of the BGT judges stated that Susan's not winning was probably a blessing. Amanda said: "She has gone from a woman that nobody knew to worldwide fame. "For anybody in the business to handle that kind of stress is an enormous amount of pressure. I think she probably just crumbled under it. "She will just need some time to recuperate. It's probably a blessing she didn't win as it takes off some of the pressure. Perhaps now she can relax."---I sincerely hope that we can continue to hear Susan sing but that she has someone helping her deal with these pressures in the future. She is an exceptional talent and an inspiring woman.

Finally sad news from Bankok where David Carradine was scheduled to begin filming a movie. He was found dead in his hotel room after not showing up for dinner on Wednesday night. Apparently he committed suicide by hanging himself with a curtain cord. He was only 72. Police say that there were signs of a struggle but no other news is available at this point. He is one of those stars who is irreplaceable.
